The man who just won $2.4 million from a slot machine in Las Vegas can't believe his luck.
Walter Misco said, 'It came as a real shock.'

A lucky New Hampshire couple will return from their Vegas vacation this weekend with an extra $2.4 million in their bank account after hitting the jackpot at the MGM Grand's 'Lion's Share' slot.

But it was no ordinary slot machine. It hadn't paid out a jackpot in more than 20 years!
'We're honored to be the people who hit this machine!' said Misco.

Walter and Linda Misco, horse farmers from New Hampshire, were the winners of the jackpot who caused the bittersweet ending for a legendary slot machine at the MGM Grand Hotel, known as the 'Lion's Share.'
The machine is so old, it even has the old-fashioned 'one-armed bandit' handle.
As the Lion's Share jackpot grew and grew over the years, every gambler was drawn to this machine.

One frustrated player from three years ago said, 'Two point two million, baby! Come on get there!' and then 'Awww!' when he did not win.
It was estimated that the Lion's Share was played every five seconds for the past 20 years, which works out to be more than 126 million bets before the big pay day.
'There were always five or six standing in line to play the machine,' said Misco.
Even Misco had to wait his turn, but it was worth the wait.
Now, the Lion's Share has roared for the last time, and it has been retired. The horse farmer who tamed the Lion hopes to take it home.

'I can't wait to see that machine in my living room!' said Walter.

The most infamously stingy slot machine in Las Vegas has finally given up its bounty.

A lucky New Hampshire couple will return from their Vegas vacation this weekend with an extra $2.4 million in their bank account after hitting the jackpot at the MGM Grand's 'Lion's Share' slot machine. The machine, the last of 50 that were unveiled when the casino opened in 1993, became famous for never paying out a jackpot, though small hits on a $3 maximum bet could earn a player as much as $10,000.

The Las Vegas Sun reported that Walter and Linda Misco of Chester, N.H. had inserted $100 into the machine and had been playing $3 maximum bets for approximately five minutes when the three green lion emblems lined up perfectly along the center pay line.

'MGM Grand is delighted to award this historic jackpot to the lucky winner of the 'Lion’s Share,' and we couldn’t be happier for the winners and their family and friends,' said Scott Sibella, president and COO of MGM Grand, said in a statement Saturday.

Walter Misco, a retired horse farmer, told the paper that he would use the money to pay his children's and grandchildren's ways through college. His largest previous haul from a Vegas trip: $8,000 playing video poker.

'It was surreal when it happened,' Misco said. 'I just sat there thinking it hadn’t actually happened.'
