The incident ID is: N/A.It seems fitting that there is an Indian Casino in Cherokee, after driving past all of the touristy Native American shops on our way there.I'll start the review by saying I'm not a huge fan of casinos generally, as I understand basic probability and am not 60+ years old. That being said, I find myself in some from time to time, and this one was only average as far as casinos go. Lots of slots and table games, smelled vaguely of smoke, had a confusing layout that I got lost in for about ten minutes, and I lost $10 in a fishing game slot machine. It was a lot cleaner than other casinos I've been to, but a lost less cocktail waitresses/waiters serving patrons at the tables and slots.Overall, pretty average if you're indifferent to casinos.Don't even know where to start. Maybe its not fare to compare to Vegas or the Borgata in AC but this place just doesn't cut it for me.
But I guess if i lived in NC and never left the state and lived in a trailer this would be a great Casino.1- Not enough cocktail waitresses. I had to wait 20 min at a table. OK its not free, but we can handle the $4 for a drink. Just hire more staff. It was a Thursday. Where is the F&B manager to see that some table never get served ? People would kill to do that job. 2- Took a break at Ruth Crist's Steak house. Had to send back my Lamb , not cooked enough. i could tell even as i was moving it around my plate before cutting it. Also the shoe string fries were soggy. But hey what do you want for a $75 dinner. 3- The karaoke was entertaining.4- Noodle bar hit the spot at 1am.5- Poker room is a disaster .... Put my name on the list, which wasn't easy, for 1-2 NL. They only had one table going and 6 on the list. Start a new freaking table dumbasses ! Well while I was waiting i won $175 playing video black jack. I cased out and went back to the Casino floor.6- New (rookie dealers) i was watching Black Jack game and the dealer was going to pay out a client $1500 for a winning hand when she was only supposed to get $250.
Luckily for the dealer another customer helped her. she would have been fired !!all in all this is another reason why i can't move to this state.ciao for now !!Having been here three different times over the a period of ten years have watched this Harrah's change for the good and then the not so much. The hotel itself seems to be growing in size & adding amenities but that cost of course comes at a price which is paid by those of us who visit. All visits have been for 'family time' Harrah's is somewhat central for all of us and our parents get 'grats' given to them. This is what people won't tell you about this Harrah'sJune 2014 We arrived after our parents and picked up the key from them at the pool. This just happened to be done after three p.m. 'if you want an early check in there is a fee' look it up it is online. Once everyone was done with the pool it was time to do a bit of 'checking in' or so we thought on computers / phones etc, Oooooops scraaaaatch that.
Father was told upon checking in that if he wanted to use his computer (WiFi) while here it would be $10.95 (.99) per day while not liking it agreed. After a couple of calls to our parents trying figure out why the code wasn't working was told to call the front desk and was informed that it was $10.95 per device. ' I'm Sorry Excuse Me ?' I will say this Out Loud three adult phones, a ten year old niece with her first phone and the possibility of using one of two laptops this is $66.00 a day extra.. 'screw them' seems to be the policy here if they want it they will pay, uhmm no they won't.The buffet - Has different stations do a bit of a walk through first and be sure it is what you want. The buffet is over priced and lacking flavor in so many areas. It was not my choice to eat here but you make the best of a situation, I am not saying all of the food is bad you just have figure out what isn't.The seafood bar - The boiled shrimp were seasoned well.
After walking through thought about reaching for raw oysters until one was picked up by another, it had a slimy like water coming off from it and never seeing this before (was visually/mentally repulsed ) then started asking questions. The oysters are frozen.Chinese bar - Couldn't bring myself to plate anything. Sis had the seaweed salad said it was awful. I tried it, it was.Sliced beef was flavorful as was the marinated beef.Veggies were hit or miss. Come on, we are in the south someone in that kitchen needs to know how to season vegetables. Rating is a 0 to 3.5 at best.Casino - You might come across a friendly employee if you are lucky found most are here doing a half ass job and will have you walking in circles. As others have stated 'no free cocktails here'. I did see several people getting soda and bottles of water then the waitresses would linger until you tipped it seemed forced.Security - Is either friendly or downright rude Bonita I believe is her name was borderline harassing me about id.
Be careful using the phone in your room - Sister decided to use the house phone she was half asleep and needed to call her bf in Ga. that 12 minute phone call was $56.00 she found this out upon checking out you would have thought she had called China with what Harrah's is charging for long distance. The house always wins, which means eventually you will always lose. The slot machines here are tight, tight, TIGHT. They are set up to fleece as many people as possible, as quickly as possible.Payouts are extremely low given the number of gamblers in the casino.Harrah's Cherokee does not know the meaning of the word 'comp.'Getting hotel reservations short notice is just about impossible, even if one is a gold card member. The restaurants are far below Las Vegas or Atlantic City standards. No live poker with dealers. Video poker is not real poker - not even close.Save your money for your retirement, and attend Gambler's Anonymous if you need help.Stay away from Cherokee, NC unless you want to buy some moccasins.
You will be much better off in the end.Recently visited NC for a weeks vacation! Stayed in Charlotte, but made the drive over to Cherokee strictly for the Casino! Being it was a weekday, the towns surrounding Cherokee were deserted and Maggie Valley was closed down for the season.. When we rounded the corner, I felt like a kid on Christmas morning!! Our casinos in Cleveland Ohio look nothing like this establishment! From the second we walked in the staff made us feel welcome! My parents appreciated that they could smoke inside the casino and didn't have to take frequent smoke breaks. It was not busy, so we were able to freely play whatever machines we desired! I luckily walked out a winner! And this past week received comps in the mail including a free nights stay, $20 food credit and free play cash. They do a great job here! All of the staff on duty were friendly and helpful! We would love to go back if we ever return to NC!Let me begin by saying that I'm not much of a gambler.
We came here because we wanted to take a quick road trip to the mountains during our family visit to the South and my mother-in-law was able to score two free rooms. Our troubles began when we arrived at our scheduled check-in time and, instead of breezing through the express check-in kiosk, were directed to a lobby filled with people and their luggage. We asked the bell desk to hold our stuff while we headed to the casino and bar. The front desk was going to call us when the rooms were ready. Two hours and no phone call later, we headed back to the lobby. We were told that the cleaning people were putting a rush on it and it wouldn't be much longer. After some more time hanging around the lobby, we had grown tired with the delay and since it was also nearing dinner time, we began to get cranky. It obviously showed on our faces because some kind of manager approached us to ask why we were looking so dissatisfied. We explained our dilemma and he basically told us good luck getting a room because it's damn near impossible at this particular time (it was Monday afternoon and that is apparently their busiest time).
He then proceeded to tell us that we shouldn't have such high expectations. When he walked up, I thought he was going to offer us some kind of comp, like drinks or a meal, but obviously customer service is not his specialty. Finally, after another hour or more and a crappy hamburger meal at the food court, our rooms were ready. We had adjoining rooms, one with two queen beds and one with a king bed. The rooms were spacious and fit our needs, except that our bathroom could have benefited from a deep cleaning. The property itself is very nice. The decor is contemporary and some sections have been recently remodeled. They are currently building out a new spa. The grounds are beautifully landscaped with native flowers and shrubs and a pretty creek runs in between the hotel and the casino. There is also a large event center which features D-list acts like Kathy Griffin and DJ Pauly D. For us non-gambling types, there are several comfortable lounging areas to chose from, either inside on the cushy sofas and chairs, or outside, either on one of the balconies or in a cozy Adirondack chair on the patio outside of the lobby cafe.
